New Attendance Law
Louisiana Revised Statute 17:233

High school students are allowed 5 absences per semester and younger children are allowed 10 per year. Absences of two or fewer consecutive days may be validated by a parent or caregiver. If a student is absent for three or more consecutive days, a student must present a note from a physician, nurse practitioner, or dentist to be excused. These new rules are restrictive and any extenuating circumstances will need the approval of the Supervisor of Child Welfare and Attendance.

  • Nine weeks exams will only be given in classes for Carnegie Units (high school credit).
  • These exams count for 20% of the nine weeks grade.
  • Homework counts as 1/9 of the total grade.
  • Report cards are sent home with the students three times during the year at the completion of each the nine week period.
  • Fourth nine weeks report cards are mailed home to students by the school board.

Tardy Policy

  • Since a full class period is necessary for academic achievement, it is necessary for students to arrive to school and class on time.
  • ALL tardies to school or to class will be considered unexcused.
  • Students who arrive late due to a doctor's appointment are the only excuses that will be accepted.

School Assemblies and
Classroom Speakers

School assemblies and classroom speakers occur during the school year to promote the curriculum, to encourage student health and safety, and to foster a productive learning environment. Such occasions are noted by teachers in weekly overviews, in school newsletters, and/or the school web site. Parents who wish for their children not to participate in any of these activities should notify the classroom teacher or school principal.
