ELA/Reading:
Unit 1 Reaching Out focuses on being courageous,
the differences one person can make, and not making judgements
based on appearance. Two stories we will focus on are Flowers
For Algernon and Harriet Tubman.
Students will use many ways to write personal and inventive
narratives, biographies, and essays.
Math:
The first few months are spent improving our skills
in the transitional unit. We review basic computation in
converting decimals, fractions, and percents, as well as
computing fraction and decimal problems.
Social Studies:
We are getting to know points of interest in Louisiana,
mapping parishes, and orientation to our state. We will
study the census and also begin exploring Poverty Point.
Science:
We started to identify lab safety rules and acted
out Wrong Way Wednesday science problems. We also learned
a lot from Spongebob about what NOT to do in the science
lab. As we study the scientific method, we will perform
weekly science experiments. Our studies start with the layers
of the Earth.
