March 20, 2009
Dear Applicants and Guardians,
Welcome to the 2009-2010 Folsom Jr. High Cheerleading Tryouts! Listed is the important information you will need for the tryouts:
• Cheerleading is a great opportunity and a wonderful experience, but it is also a big responsibility both for the student and for the parent. Cheerleading takes much time and effort from the student, and parents are expected to be responsible for paying costs that will range from $500 to $700 for uniforms, camp, equipment, and supplies. If you are not prepared to take on these responsibilities immediately, please do not try out.
• Tryout workshops will be Wednesday, March 25th through Friday, March 27th from 5 – 7 p.m. all three days. Tryouts will be Saturday, March 28th at 9:00 a.m. All workshops and tryouts will be closed to spectators. Results will be posted to the gym doors at 3:00 p.m.
• All current FJH Cheerleaders must try out again for a spot on the squad.
• Any seventh grade student who wishes to try out for one of the two co-captain positions or one of the two lieutenant positions MUST write a 250 word essay describing why he/she would be the best for the position AND create a cheer (separate from what will be learned at the workshop) to perform in front of the judges on the day of tryouts.
• Students must wear t-shirts, shorts, and tennis shoes for the workshops and tryouts. Students may NOT wear any article of clothing that shows he/she was a member of the FJH or any other school’s cheerleading squad.
• FJH Cheerleaders are held to the highest standards, both academically and behaviorally, as they are viewed as leaders of the school. Therefore, specific details concerning responsibilities, expectations, and payment information will be discussed at a mandatory meeting for new members on Monday, March 30th at 6 p.m. in Room #11.
• FJH Cheerleaders’ Bylaws and Expectations will be available for downloading from our school’s website, www.folsomjunior.stpsb.org on Monday, March 23rd. Copies will also be available at the school on the first day of the tryout workshop.
• This packet contains the necessary paperwork that outlines the applicant’s academic and personal behavior at school. The information is taken into account when the results are tallied during the applicant’s tryout. Please complete this packet and return the completed forms with the $20 tryout fee no later than 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 24th.
